History's greatest heroes return for the most outrageously funny and entertaining "Ice Age" adventure in two million years. When Scrat's acorn antics cause a cataclysmic crack-up, Manny (Ray Romano), Sid (John Leguizamo) and Diego (Denis Leary) go where no herd has gone before - on a high-seas quest aboard a floating iceberg. But a menagerie of misfit pirates are determined to shiver their timbers and capsize their journey home. Join a boat-load of lovable new characters (voiced by Jennifer Lopez, Aziz Ansari and Peter Dinklage) for original songs, spectacular animation and heartwarming family fun.

Field Trip Mom was given the incredible opportunity to prescreen Ice Age Continental Drift prior to its Blu Ray DVD release.  As an incredible continuation to the adventures, this movie is chalk full of laughs and adventure, continuing with the saga.  Nothing is left out for this franchises' 4th movie and is just as exciting and entertaining as the first three movies.  Ray Romano, as Manny, is funny as always with wise cracks that keep you laughing.  Antics by Sid, played by John Leguizamo, make for slap stick humor aimed at kids and adults alike.  Dennis Leary, as Diego, is wild and witty.

Ice Age Continental Drift is rated PG and has a run time of 88 minutes.  Plenty of extras on this DVD including:

The MPAA comments on the movie are listed below.  Every parent must use their own beliefs and discretion when monitoring their children's viewing habits and comments are simply suggestions for those purposes.

Sex/Nudity:
All the characters are animals covered with fur, however certain character have pronounced buttocks or anthropomorphic bosoms.  There are some romances between characters: Peaches and Ethan, Diego and Shira.  Two scenes involve fish who turn into figures that attract the others: for example Diego sees Shira, Sid sees a girl sloth, Manny sees Ellie and Peaches and Scrat sees Scratte.  A male seal is wondering where his 'booty' is and while searching for it, his butt gets close to the camera.  Peaches calls Ethan 'hot'.

Violence/Gore:
In many scenes characters are threatened with knives made of fish bones.  Nobody gets hurt.  Mild slapstick violence in general.

Profanity:
In one scene, Sid says "Holy Crab!" which sound a lot like "Holy Crap!".  When Sid meets his old family (in which they abandon him again a few minutes later), Granny says "I'll bury you all and piss on your grave"

Alcohol/ Drugs/Smoking:
Manny has a moan about Peach going to the falls, saying that 'First its the falls, then shes piercing her trunk then the next thing you know shes addicted to berries!" which could be drugs.

Frightening/Intense Scenes:
The first 20 minutes of the film can be quite a bit intense.  Characters are in constant danger from falling rocks and ice blocks, earthquakes, breaking ice, etc.  The film may upset as Peaches is frequently worrying about how she might never see her father again, and thinking how the last thing she said to him was that she never wanted him as his father.  The surreal grinning fish may frighten young children.  Kids may get scared as this film is shot in 3D.  The Siren scene may be scary for young children. Appropriate for 7 Years +.

As parents of 6 and 8 year old boys, we believe the movie was rated correctly.  At no time did we feel the scenes were too intense or suggestive for our children.  Adult connotations are occasionally evident in the movie however no scenes spoke of or showed topics that have not been explained or discussed in our home or at school.  Personal opinions may vary dependent on family beliefs and values.  Field Trip Mom respects the decisions of all.

How to make a California Mission Model.

Learn how to make a California Mission Model at home or in the classroom. We made this project as part of the California Public School Fourth grade requirement in a group setting. Continue to read on to get the supply list and instructions for a successful mission model. On an ordinary day, I was reminded how amazing kids really are when there are no limits. Just as equally amazing are the teachers who guide them and teach them everyday.  I am very thankful for the opportunity that I was given as a parent volunteer.  The day was like a beautiful dance where parents, teachers and students came together for a common goal. The goal was to make models of California Missions from a simple picture and lots of cardboard.  I can honestly say the goal was reached and everyone deserved an "A".

State Testing and a letter of encouragement

State Testing CCSS SBAC is starting next week for our area.  This semester, my son's fourth grade teacher has asked that I write him a letter of encouragement.  She gave us a few weeks notice. I have, in the past few days, written a few handwritten notes of encouragement. Then, I would wake up the next day realizing that it was not loving enough and second guessing myself. This task has been a little hard for me.  Then, the final email reminder came from the teacher. It read as follow: "This is just a friendly reminder to please send a letter of encouragement to your student to be opened this coming Monday, May 1. Students will be given the letters prior to taking their first test."  Oh my goodness, I have to get it done!!! So, I put on my big girl pants and re-wrote the letter for the 5th time. This time, I made it classroom friendly and left out lots of the I love you's and all the mushy stuff I had written before. The letter went something like this:  Dea
