Mrs. Knotts Thanksgiving Dinner To Go

Cooking Thanksgiving Dinner has never gotten easier with the help of Mrs. Knott's Chicken House at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park.  Field Trip Mom was one of the exclusive invitees to sample Mrs. Knott's Thanksgiving Feast and we are beyond excited to share our experience with our followers.

We arrived promptly at 6 PM, where Alma was easily dropped off in front of Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant.  The boys and I quickly parked the car in the 3 hour free parking lot near Ghost Rider and TGI Friday's restaurant.  Parking was simple, take a ticket from the automated booth and we found ample parking very close to our destination.  There are many shopping opportunities in the main street of Knott's Berry Farm and with this 3 hour free parking, there is plenty of time to pick up all of your favorite treats and gifts for this holiday season.  The boys and I quickly found Alma at the chicken restaurant "take out" store where she was standing in line.  A very quick and simple process as the employees were prompt and friendly assisting all of the bloggers for this event as well as the Friday night dinner orders.  Chicken meals to the left, biscuits and jam to the right, what's not to love.

The staff brought out our meal which I was expecting only a couple of trays, enough for a family of four and on the counter he laid the biggest, heaviest box of Thanksgiving Feast down for us.  That wasn't the end, another staff member came up behind with a whole pumpkin pie and handed it to Alma.  ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!  As I stand there in awe, I could only see a golden glow surrounding the box as the smell of turkey started to fill the air!  My initial reaction was, "Alma, get some paper plates from them because this isn't going to last during the drive home!"  I was excited but controlled my emotions as we started to walk out.  Alma wanted to buy some jams from the store next door, so we walked past the delicious bakery without having to walk outside into the general store next door.  We bought our jams and headed back to the car.  In no time, we were in the car, through the parking booth and on the freeway heading home.

We arrived home, set the box down and like a pack of wolves, the boys and Alma couldn't resist the smell from inside the box.  Knott's Executive Chef, Bobby Obezo, placed a very nice Happy Holiday letter inside the box with full heating instructions to ensure cooking success.  Now, I know what you are thinking, oh great, must reheat, now its dry....FAR FROM THE TRUTH!  Knott's culinary experts have created the perfect method for cooking and reheating to  ensure the meal is as fresh as cooking it yourself.

The meal is cook to 90% completion at Knott's kitchen, then boxed and available for you to pick up.  You simply follow the easy instructions on the back of the letter and about an hour later you are ready to eat.  The turkey is covered in two foil trays then wrapped in foil to secure the trays and prevent the juices from leaking during transportation.  All of the side dishes are securely sealed in their own microwavable containers to prevent spills and ensure ease of reheating.  The cranberries, pickles, butter, jellies and rolls are all packaged in containers then separated in paper bags to ensure freshness.

The pumpkin pie was contained in its disposable pie tin then packaged in this plastic cover to ensure safe travels.  We took the turkey out of the box, preheated the over to 350 degrees F and set the 12 lb bird in the oven.  Watching it at 30 and 45 minute intervals we checked the temperature of the bird to ensure it was at 165 degrees and to prevent drying out the meat.  The instructions carefully advised us that ovens vary in temperature and to check the turkey.  About 50 minutes later, we were at our exact temperature and took the turkey out of the oven to sit for 5 minutes to rest from all of excitement of cooking.  During this time, we started warming all of the delicious side dishes and getting drinks on the table.  The joy of bringing the family together to cook, set the table and enjoy the smells of Thanksgiving brought happy thoughts and memorable moments for our entire family.  I unwrapped the turkey as the family set the table and carved up enough meat to serve us all.

We sat down at the table and said our blessing, thanking God and Knott's Berry Farm for this glorious meal.  We prayed for all of our soldiers serving our country and thanked our family and friends for all that they do for us on a daily basis.  Lastly, we prayed for those persons that are less fortunate asking that their prayers are answered for a hot meal, warm clothing and a roof over their heads during this holiday season and for time to come!  Bless all of our followers and please consider inviting a person or family who is less fortunate to celebrate with you during this holiday season.

I cannot tell you how good this meal is.  All of your favorites are in one box, ready to heat and serve.  The turkey is moist and seasoned to perfection, the rolls are soft and delicious, the potatoes are creamy and smooth, candied yams, cranberries, butter pickles, and who can forget the savory country apple stuffing.  Mouth drooling yet???  Keep reading, the how to order facts are coming!  Look at this delicious turkey.  This meal is a win for the entire family.  Save money at the grocery store as this meal is priced right.  No cutting, chopping, slicing and being stuck in the kitchen.  Go enjoy that family traditional flag football game in the park.

Knotts Berry Farm is making pick up easier than ever.  Drive to the easy pick up spot, no need to get out of your vehicle as Knotts is setting up a drive thru style pick up, simply show your paperwork, pop your trunk and head home to enjoy the rest of the holiday with your family.  Even if you decide to add some snacks before the meal, your food prep time is greatly reduced allowing for you to enjoy the family not live in the kitchen.  Husbands, save your wife's back and legs this Thanksgiving and order Mrs. Knott's Turkey Feast today.  She will thank you for it.  Tell her you have this meal covered, drive over, bang some pots together and serve her a delicious meal.  She will thank you for it later.

State Testing and a letter of encouragement

State Testing CCSS SBAC is starting next week for our area.  This semester, my son's fourth grade teacher has asked that I write him a letter of encouragement.  She gave us a few weeks notice. I have, in the past few days, written a few handwritten notes of encouragement. Then, I would wake up the next day realizing that it was not loving enough and second guessing myself. This task has been a little hard for me.  Then, the final email reminder came from the teacher. It read as follow: "This is just a friendly reminder to please send a letter of encouragement to your student to be opened this coming Monday, May 1. Students will be given the letters prior to taking their first test."  Oh my goodness, I have to get it done!!! So, I put on my big girl pants and re-wrote the letter for the 5th time. This time, I made it classroom friendly and left out lots of the I love you's and all the mushy stuff I had written before. The letter went something like this:  Dea

How to make a California Mission Model.

Learn how to make a California Mission Model at home or in the classroom. We made this project as part of the California Public School Fourth grade requirement in a group setting. Continue to read on to get the supply list and instructions for a successful mission model. On an ordinary day, I was reminded how amazing kids really are when there are no limits. Just as equally amazing are the teachers who guide them and teach them everyday.  I am very thankful for the opportunity that I was given as a parent volunteer.  The day was like a beautiful dance where parents, teachers and students came together for a common goal. The goal was to make models of California Missions from a simple picture and lots of cardboard.  I can honestly say the goal was reached and everyone deserved an "A".
