LEGOLAND Holiday Snow Days is happening now.

Last week was my son's birthday.  Every year, we struggle to find something to do for him.  This year we were blessed, he had a week-long of celebrations.  It started on Monday with a visit to LEGOLAND Holiday Snow days.  We saw over 22,000 LEGO models and more than 57 million bricks at LEGOLAND California Resort.  My son was over the moon running around experiencing snow along with riding roller coasters.  The extra bonus was that he got to play with his favorite toy, "Legos".
We visited the LEGOLAND Hotel and received a pleasant surprise of various Lego builds, Lego Characters and a Lego play castle.  There is even an elevator with a disco-ball that played dance music.  The kids danced as we explored the hotel.  The hotel is one of a kind with many kid friendly surprises. We don't want to give away all the fun details so you will have to see it for yourself.  Just know that there are talking Lego characters and much more.
Right now during the Holiday Snow Days, you will see lots of Holiday builds like this gorgeous Christmas tree and Mariachi Band made entirely out of Legos. My kids were awe struck with so many great creations. The kid’s imagination was running free as they saw and experienced first-hand that anything is possible with Legos.
There in the middle of great Lego rides and Lego builds, we saw the snow. Yeah!!!  Inner-tubing down the slope was open for all to enjoy some serious snow play.  My kids loved this family activity and rode the inner-tubes several times.  The rush of riding fast down a hill and having the snow splash you as you make it to the bottom were exciting for us all.
Our most favorite thing to see that day was the wall full of Lego Characters inside the hotel. The four of us stood there counting and admiring all the characters.  Yes, we want them all.  We have been collecting these characters for many years.  I think we have only two characters short of a hoarding collection.  Still we don't have as much as is on this wall. So we started to celebrate a birthday and it ended up that all of us had a great time as a family.
We were invited as part of a media day to experience the Holiday Snow. What ended up happening was that we all had a wonderful family field trip.  I highly recommend taking a day to just be happy and enjoy the family.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Find out more and see more pictures by going to their website: Legoland California Resort right now you can purchase the hopper ticket for $65.00!

Flare Play Gaming System - Special Holiday Offer

We received the opportunity to review a new online gaming system called Flare Play an online demand video game system.  We were sent a 12" x 8" box and inside was a wireless Logitech game control, similar to any you would use today for PC gaming or from a major game system.  Also inside was a very small micro console and 2 wires.  Setup was very easy.  I simply plugged the HDMI cable into the console and then into one of my HDMI ports on the back of my HD TV.  Next, I plugged the small micro USB into to console and the USB cable to the USB port on my TV.  It was that simple.  I turned on the TV and the game system quickly identified my home wireless network prompting me to log in with my SSID secure password.  Using our registered email address and password, the gaming system immediately presented all of the game titles with a over hundred to choose from.

I choose a jet fighter game called Hawx 2, which was incredibly fun.  This game leads you through different missions where you fire missiles at enemy bases, perform routine flight drills and dogfight in training and combat.  Incredible high definition graphics had me engaged with amazing sound and optional vibrating controls.  Additional games I found were Assassins Creed II, Lego Batman, Lego Harry Potter, Farm Simulator 2013, Rabbids Go Home and many more.  This system packs sports, action, simulator and other themes in a very convenient system.

Features of this system include Instant On Demand Play with no discs required.  Family Entertainment; more fun, less waiting.  Unlimited Play, game as much as you want.  Pause and play feature allows you to step away from your game and continue at a later time without losing your game place.  Games for all persons including adventure, action, arcade, simulation, sports and racing.  Easy to plug and play system allowing one to connect within minutes.  Compact and portable system allows you to take the device from place to place without having to carry a bulky system.  This is a great holiday gift idea for the entire family at an absolutely incredible value.
SPECIAL READER OFFER:
Now through December 31st, Flare Play is offering Field Trip Mom readers a free micro console (A $99.00 Value) with a 3 month subscription for only $30.00.  At $10.00 per month, this is a low cost monthly rate giving you tons of fun games to play on demand.  If you download from I-tunes, the Play Store or rent from Redbox or your local video rental store, you can easily justify this system.  Flare Play is adding new games every month bringing more excitement to this system.  No more buying a $60.00 game a couple times a month for your kids.  No more having to return games to Redbox.  No more scratched disks nor selling unused games to big box companies for pennies on the dollar.  This is Flare Play, the next generation of game systems.  Watch the video to see more on how amazing this system is and use the link below to receive the special blog reader offer!

Ben 10 Omniverse 2 Video Game

In stores now for the holiday gift season is the latest installment from D3 Publishers and Cartoon Network, Ben 10 Omniverse 2.  The Field Trip Mom family was given the opportunity to preview this game.  This powerhouse packed game is an all new adventure for your little gamers and will hold the attention of the biggest of kids.
Features include:
  • An All New Storyline -  Players fight against the Incruseans specially created by the writers of Cartoon Network's TV show.
  • Play as your Favorite Characters from the Show - Ben and all of his Omnitrix Aliens are ready to battle against vicious enemies in a multi player co-op brawler mode.
  • New Alien Forms to Discover and Unlock - Join the fight with 10 Aliens on console versions and 17 on the Nintendo 3DS.  Some of these characters include Big Chill, Bullfrag, Rath, Eatle and more.  Every character has their own role to help combat the game to completion.
  • Alien Upgrades - The Omnitrix now selects aliens by class on console, allowing players to store their favorite aliens by size and speed.  Players can then choose them appropriately as needed to battle the enemies.
  • Fight Against the Incurseans - Fight against the Incursean army in an open ended combo based combat system allowing players to perform multi-alien attacks and powerful combinations moves.
System platforms this game can be purchased for include Wii U, Wii, Nintendo 3DS, Microsoft Xbox 360, and Sony PlayStation 3.   Rated E10+ for mild cartoon violence, fighting and explosions.
Addicting and entertaining.  Mildly complex for all skill levels, this game has it all.  Our kids love Ben 10 and have been watching since the beginning episodes on Cartoon Network.  They are owners of several other versions for the Wii and 3DS so they were very excited to get the opportunity to play Ben 10 Omniverse 2.  I sat down one evening with my oldest sons Nintendo 3DS to give the game a shot.  There are plenty of instructions in the start of the game to help you understand how to move the characters and tips on various moves.  The instruction manual is easy to understand but my boys don't care to much about reading how to play vs. actually getting down and dirty with the game live.  I played for an hour and a half and it felt like 20 minutes.  This game is very engaging and challenging enough to keep your interest for a long time.  We have had the game for 3 weeks trying it out and still are working through all of the levels.  Our boys are big video game players and whenever the homework is done, they turn to the newest one in the collection.  From the boys at fieldtripmom.com, we highly recommend this game for your little gamers whether they are 10 or 60.  If your kids are Ben 10 fans...this is a must have stocking stuffer or gift under the tree this Christmas!

Caramel Hot Chocolate with a Hershey's Kiss recipe with a free printable

The weather outside is pretty chilly. Sweaters, jackets, gloves and scarfs are out of storage and being worn to keep from freezing. This holiday season stay warm with this tasty beverage that will make you smile.

All you need is some delicious ingredients from your pantry. I used caramel from Mrs. Calls, because I had that on hand, but you may use any caramel candy that is at your local grocery store such as Brach's, Smucker's or Bequet Caramel ( adjust cooking time for the softer caramel). Click on the image below to get your free printable. (Thank you Jill from Sandy Toes and Popsicles for making this beautiful printable.)

Printable Recipe

Directions: Unwrap the caramel candy and pour into the cup you will be using for the final product.  Melt the caramel in the microwave by heating it for 5 seconds (time may vary depending on the caramel. Less time for Soft Caramel and for a more thick caramel add 5 seconds.) Then  pour the milk over the caramel and add the Hershey Cocoa mix. Stir all ingredients together until it is mixed well. One last time in the microwave for an additional 35 seconds to warm the milk. Take out and stir to mix the ingredients. Taste it  to make sure it is warm enough for you. Add additional time if needed, but not too much. Add the 2 kisses to make it sweet and mix well. Finish by adding your favorite dairy cream such as Cool Whip or Reddi Whip.  If you have extra Hershey kisses add one on top just because.

Each kitchen is different and cooking times may vary.  I enjoy a hot beverage that does not burn my mouth. I have taken that into consideration in this recipe. Use your creative side when making this yummy treat.  Tip: Using bright and seasonal coffee cups can make it a little more fun. I hope you enjoy this recipe.

Ikea is helping Education.

My family and I have been regular customers of Ikea for several years. We love their food, furniture, soft toys, art supplies and live plants. Shopping at their stores is a happy adventure. From the time we walk in until the time we check out, we find new and unique items for the entire home. For years we have been shopping during the holidays at Ikea to support education.

My first edible Turkey Art -

Last week, I made my first edible art Turkey project for a party decoration.  It is cute in it's own funny way and I wanted to share it with my readers. The best part of this project is that it was super easy and you can eat the fruit after it's been used as your table decoration.  For this project, I used a melon, a Bosc pear, bell peppers, grapes, blueberries and Gala apples.  I had also purchased strawberries to add to my turkey but the kids ate them before I had the chance to decorate with them.  I had to use what was left over and this is what it looked like after I was done.  There are many fruits and vegetables you can use to make your own edible art however my supply list and instructions on how to make it are below.  This is just in time for Thanksgiving and won't take you away from all of the other cooking for too long.

You will need a few things to get started. Different size skewers and one mallet (hammer). I used toothpicks, apple skewers and the larger size kabob skewers as seen above. These can be found at your local market but I recommend going to the Dollar Store. The mallet makes it easier to hammer the toothpicks and skewers into the fruit that you are using. This is similar to non-carving fruit.  Don't forget a cutting board to protect your countertop.

You can use any type of melon or cantaloupe to make the body.  Find a large round fruit like a melon or cantaloupe that will sit firmly on the table without rolling around too much. The head can be a Bosc pear because of the color of the peel.  The feet are orange bell peppers and feathers can be apples.  Next, use the blueberries for the eyes.  Remember that the large skewers will add weight to the fruit and tilt it just a little, so keep that in mind when build it.

First, start with the pear and blueberries. Apple size skewers are best to attach the blueberries to the pear and melon. The pear should be attached with the tail facing down to give it character and the appearance of the head and neck. It should be positioned towards the top half of the fruit.  Once you know where you want the head (Bosc pear) to be secured then use the mallet to push it through gently without pushing the skewer all the way in.  Make sure to use 2 or 3 skewers to ensure the head stays secure to the body.  By now, you will see the head with the eyes and neck.

Work on putting fruit on skewers to make the tail feathers of the turkey.  Use the long skewers for grapes, strawberries and blueberries are great for making these feathers. Play with the combination of bite size fruits on the skewers to make it your own creation.  One suggestion I would like to share is skewer the grapes length wise, because you will use less fruit and cover more area.  It is up to you which fruits or veggies you use for this part.  Five skewers worked for me on a honeydew melon.  Remember it gets top heavy and it starts to lose balance if you put too much weight, so choose your fruits or veggies carefully.  Once you have skewered the fruit, use your mallet again and hammer them on the back of the body.  I suggest use five fingers from the Bosc Pear to the skewered fruit.  You will have to use your own judgment as fruit comes in different sizes.

Cut the beak, snood and feet out of a yellow and red bell pepper. Make a triangle out of a yellow bell pepper and secure it with toothpicks. The snood can be made from the red bell pepper. Cut it in the shape of a wobbly candy cane. The snood is the piece that hangs off the beak. (My picture doesn't show it, because it fell off at the party.)  Once  you have completed this step your are done!  Congratulations you made your first edible turkey art. It is fun if you include your kids in the process or a friend.  Try it and surprise your family with this fun food project.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

Testing DerMend skin healing moisturizing cream.

Six weeks ago, I began a testing of a new cream for bruised skin. DerMend is a moisturizing cream.  The ingredients include Arnica oil, cermides, retinol, glycolic acid according to their website. The cream was created to help heal and improve the appearance of a bruise. I was curious because of one of the main ingredients, Arnica oil. Arnica in my family is a must use for bruises and scrapes on the skin.

I remember as a young child getting hurt very badly and my parents rushing to rub Arnica cream on my injury. The smell was so vivid that I tried avoiding getting it on my body. This time, I was pleasantly surprised that DerMend did not have a heavy scent. As I rubbed it on my arm, I could feel a silky blanket protecting my skin. It felt great to my skin. Recently, my son fell down and bruised his knee which I felt confident and applied it on his knee. He doesn’t like creams with strong scent either but since there was no smell, he did not complain about using the product.

Days go by and the bruises have started healing. For best results, I suggest you apply it 2 times a day and keep it open to have air hit the skin. I tested the product because I know many of you want to know about new ways to help your skin. Remember diet, hydration and sleep help your skin stay looking healthy.  DerMend is just an added bonus to help all the other things you are currently doing to care for your skin.

"Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” – Steve Jobs

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I — I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” – Robert Frost

Giveaway: GH Cretors Samplers Pack Popped Corn

Disclosure: I received a sampler package to review the product. All thoughts and opinions are all my own.

I am happy to announce that GH Cretors is hosting a giveaway. These are some tasty treats for the entire family. I received a sampler package as a gift and my family enjoyed the popped corn with a great day at home. The great taste comes from brown rice syrup, no artificial flavors, gluten free ingredients, fresh creamery butter, natural sweeteners, locally grown with no GMO's popcorn. All products are Kosher. Really a great snack that everyone can enjoy. I suggest you try it and then you will  know why it is so delicious. But I have to warning you that you might have to hide it from the kids. My kids ate a bag in a few minutes. Popped corn does not stay long in your home, so make sure you buy enough to make everyone happy.  The Sampler Box is the best way to get started. You get to taste a little bit of everything. Want to know more? Go to GH Cretors: http://www.ghcretors.com/flavors/

Halloween and science come together at the Discovery Science Center.

Discovery Science Center (DSC):  2500 N Main St  Santa Ana, CA 92705
Located near the Santa Ana Mall off Main Street is one of Orange County's award winning science museums. It is one of 10 recipients of this year’s National Medal for Museum and Library Service. This fall they are having fun with science and Ripley's Believe it or Not exhibit.
Spooky Science at the Discovery Science Center is filled with lots of learning opportunities. They have Spiders, pumpkins, chemistry lessons, 3D ART Maze, Ripley's Believe or not exhibit as well as their regular exhibits. I visited with my family as part of media night and found myself enjoying the education it offered.
Halloween is the best season to teach about vocabulary words such as weird, strange, bizarre and out of the ordinary. The Ripley's Believe it or Not exhibit offers a fun way to learn about strange and out of the ordinary things. Standing in the middle of the Ripley's believe it or not exhibit, I found myself saying strange, eccentric and weird. Together with my family, we found out that candy can make beautiful art (Justin Bieber portrait) and that Robert Wadlow, the world’s tallest man, grew to be 8 feet 11 inches tall. There was a great photo opportunity of very large shark teeth. All of these are a must see when you visit the DSC.

Nothing is impossible for an artist. I spent several minutes looking this piece over at the Ripley's Believe it or not exhibit. I could not take my eyes off the art piece, because I could feel the love it took to create it.  I imagined the love and patience's it must have taken to match up each toy. This is truly a wonderful piece that made me smile.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

My visit to the DSC reminded me that there is always something new to learn in life. My hope is that you continue to seek knowledge and find the beauty in your community. Have a great time this fall season celebrating it. Have a happy Halloween.
