Money Making Ideas - Happy New Year #NewYearsResolutions #money

Money Making Ideas.  Most Stay-At-Home moms are on budgets. Living on one income is a balancing act. Today I am sharing a few of my ideas on how to find money. Here is a list of things I have done while still staying home with my kids.

Recycle - water bottles, soda cans OC Recycling
When you go to the recycling center you will see others making a living by recycling.
Selling things you no longer need such as kids clothes, toddler toys, jeans, tools, houseware (Pyrex) and furniture. De-Clutter your home and find things to sell on Craigslist, Ebay or host a Yard Sale.
You can also email your friends that you are having an online vintage sale. Someone else's trash can be another person's treasure.  So make a few bucks selling.

Buy with a coupon. My favorite book is the Entertainment Book, because of it's buy one get one free coupons. With two boys and a tight budget this helps save on entertaiment and food. February is the best month to purchase the book online. The price drops from it's original price. Entertainment Book

De-clutter your home can help you save money.  Knowing what is in your closet, drawers and car can prevent you from over buying or wasting.  Make sure you know what is in your refrigerator as well. Clean it out at least once a month, if not once a week. If you don't know what supplies you have or clothing is in your closet, then you are in need of de-cluttering.

Joining a group - MOMS Club has saved me money, because we receive group discounts. Through my MOMS Club, I have been able to go on some incredible field trips.  The group buys in bulk and the discount is passed on to me.

Shop with Friends or Family - Costco, Sams Club and Buying in Bulk is a great way to save. But if you don't need all of it, then it is a waste. Share with friends a purchase and split the cost.  Don't be afraid to go together and carpool. Just remember to stick to your list and don't over buy.

Donate your unwanted items to a non-profit. This idea is great for receiving tax credit on your income tax. While you won't see the saving immediately, when tax time comes around it is a great way to get a small credit on your income taxes.

Cleaning houses, babysitting or house sitting are great ways to find extra cash. Get the word out to friends and post flyers. This way you can have a flexible schedule, while you make extra cash.  This works best, when friends and neighbors refer you to people they know. Other ways to advertise is through social sites PennySaver, Craigslist, Ebay Classifieds and local Starbucks bulletin board.

Selling your beautiful crafts on Esty or local farmers market. There is also a group that helps crafters called "OC Boutiquers" on meetup. OC Boutiquers on Meetup

I hope that this post helps you make a little extra money. Happy New Year!!!

State Testing and a letter of encouragement

State Testing CCSS SBAC is starting next week for our area.  This semester, my son's fourth grade teacher has asked that I write him a letter of encouragement.  She gave us a few weeks notice. I have, in the past few days, written a few handwritten notes of encouragement. Then, I would wake up the next day realizing that it was not loving enough and second guessing myself. This task has been a little hard for me.  Then, the final email reminder came from the teacher. It read as follow: "This is just a friendly reminder to please send a letter of encouragement to your student to be opened this coming Monday, May 1. Students will be given the letters prior to taking their first test."  Oh my goodness, I have to get it done!!! So, I put on my big girl pants and re-wrote the letter for the 5th time. This time, I made it classroom friendly and left out lots of the I love you's and all the mushy stuff I had written before. The letter went something like this:  ...

How to make a California Mission Model.

Learn how to make a California Mission Model at home or in the classroom. We made this project as part of the California Public School Fourth grade requirement in a group setting. Continue to read on to get the supply list and instructions for a successful mission model. On an ordinary day, I was reminded how amazing kids really are when there are no limits. Just as equally amazing are the teachers who guide them and teach them everyday.  I am very thankful for the opportunity that I was given as a parent volunteer.  The day was like a beautiful dance where parents, teachers and students came together for a common goal. The goal was to make models of California Missions from a simple picture and lots of cardboard.  I can honestly say the goal was reached and everyone deserved an "A".

Field Trip to Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament - Buena Park

My family and I were invited to Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament for an afternoon of entertainment. I want to tell you about our journey into the Middle Ages via Medieval Times. It began at the will-call window with the kind clerk suggesting we visit their museum for a small fee. We said yes immediately to exploring their Middle Ages Museum called “The Museum of Torture”. It sounded interesting and educational to see Medieval exhibits. As we headed to the museum, a women dressed in traditional Middle Ages attire adorned all of us with blue crowns. We were assigned Don Alberto Del Mau as our Knight for the tournament. This meant we would have to cheer and support our Knight into battle. Don Alberto Del Mau is a young squire who is renowned as a champion of the defenseless.   Armed with this knowledge, we set out to visit the Museum of Torture.     Inside the museum, we realized that living in the Middle ages was a terrible time for all who crossed Royalty. ...
