Field Trip Adventures at Black Star Canyon - Silverado, CA

If you are looking for an amazing trip, consider taking a hike or bike ride through Black Star Canyon in Silverado, CA. Located 10 miles east of Orange, CA, one can experience the splendor of Northern California in the densely populated area of Orange County, CA. Whether you are an experienced hiker, mountain biker or just enjoy a friendly stroll, this Orange County Regional Park will take your breathe away and leave you asking to see more. Large trees line the trails including oak, acorn, willow and many other varieties. Wildlife has been seen by hikers and bikers along the trail adding to this amazing journey. Great for families who want to teach their kids more about nature. This trail allows for a simple family stroll to smell the daisies or for that power hiker in the family, more advanced climbing to get your heart pumping.
Several organizations including the California Chaparral Institute, the Sierra Club, Wilderness4All, Students of Cal Poly Pomona and more are working to turn the Santa Ana Mountains into a National Monument named Grizzly Bear National Monument.
This names comes from the grizzly bears who called cities like Irvine and Corona home in the late 1800's and early 1900's.  On Jan 8th, 1908, the last known grizzly bear in Southern California was tracked and killed in Holy Jim Canyon.

With hundreds on native species of plants, shrubs and trees, Black Star Canyon and the Santa Ana Mountains make an incredible place to learn more about natural science and wildlife that inhabit this area.  Being our first trip to this glorious place, we were provided a tour of the canyon by Joel Robertson of Naturalist-For-You who added lots of insightful information about the plant and wild life in these mountains and canyons.  Hikes are calendared several times a month and if you are interested in learning more, simply log on to Joel's website Naturalist for You Organization.
On behalf of all of the Field Trip Mom family members, we would like to thank Joel as well as Valerie Mitchell of Sweeps4Bloggers.com for coordinating this adventure!
If you would like to add your name to the list of supporters for Grizzly National Monument, visit Santa Ana Mountains or email info@santaanamountains.org.

Fighting Bronchitis Germs

I am home with bronchitis. The doctor gave me antibiotics for my illness, but not the other stuff.  My nose is running, I have some congestion and I am exhausted. My sore throat and dry lips hurt. After resting for a few hours, I headed over to Walmart to get a few things that I needed to fight Bronchitis.

Dry lips and sore throat required I run to the medicine aisle. Cough drops, lip balm, Vapor Rub, Nasal spray and cough medicine were on my list. But once I was there I realized that I needed a few more things to get me back to health. Lysol, Clorox wipes and Puffs Tissues were also needed to help me fight bronchitis.

The Vapor Rub helped my breathing. (It is an ointment that can be used to suppress cough and open up your breathing.)  EOS organic lip balm with vitamins helped my dry lips to feel better. Cough drops with Eucalyptus helped my sore throat immediately. Just a few things can make a difference in feeling better.

Bronchitis won't get the best of me. I feel better already.  Yes, the antibiotics are helping too.

Thank you for the love and support.

Life is full of many moments. Some moments are wonderful and others not so much. When I began this blog I was struggling with making tough decisions. How do I go back to work without disrupting our home life?  Where do we live to make sure we are all eating dinners together? These decisions would bring on change and consequences. Some of the changes would bring fun happy moments and others would bring on heartache. (The moving and selling of the house has been filled with pain and sadness.) My friends and my family have kept me positive and focused.  Happiness has come through my writing, volunteer work at school and family dinners. Work has brought happy surprises, because I have met many kind and loving friends. Overall I feel so loved by everyone around me. I am extremely blessed. The bonus is that I have you, the reader, supporting and reading my posts. Some of you have shared my blog with others and that brings more love to this blog. I am very thankful for the love and kindness you have shown me. It doesn’t go unnoticed.  I hope that you know just how much I appreciate the love and support.

Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

May you always find love in everything, in everyone and all that you do.

Money Making Ideas - Happy New Year #NewYearsResolutions #money

Money Making Ideas.  Most Stay-At-Home moms are on budgets. Living on one income is a balancing act. Today I am sharing a few of my ideas on how to find money. Here is a list of things I have done while still staying home with my kids.

Recycle - water bottles, soda cans OC Recycling
When you go to the recycling center you will see others making a living by recycling.
Selling things you no longer need such as kids clothes, toddler toys, jeans, tools, houseware (Pyrex) and furniture. De-Clutter your home and find things to sell on Craigslist, Ebay or host a Yard Sale.
You can also email your friends that you are having an online vintage sale. Someone else's trash can be another person's treasure.  So make a few bucks selling.

Buy with a coupon. My favorite book is the Entertainment Book, because of it's buy one get one free coupons. With two boys and a tight budget this helps save on entertaiment and food. February is the best month to purchase the book online. The price drops from it's original price. Entertainment Book

De-clutter your home can help you save money.  Knowing what is in your closet, drawers and car can prevent you from over buying or wasting.  Make sure you know what is in your refrigerator as well. Clean it out at least once a month, if not once a week. If you don't know what supplies you have or clothing is in your closet, then you are in need of de-cluttering.

Joining a group - MOMS Club has saved me money, because we receive group discounts. Through my MOMS Club, I have been able to go on some incredible field trips.  The group buys in bulk and the discount is passed on to me.

Shop with Friends or Family - Costco, Sams Club and Buying in Bulk is a great way to save. But if you don't need all of it, then it is a waste. Share with friends a purchase and split the cost.  Don't be afraid to go together and carpool. Just remember to stick to your list and don't over buy.

Donate your unwanted items to a non-profit. This idea is great for receiving tax credit on your income tax. While you won't see the saving immediately, when tax time comes around it is a great way to get a small credit on your income taxes.

Cleaning houses, babysitting or house sitting are great ways to find extra cash. Get the word out to friends and post flyers. This way you can have a flexible schedule, while you make extra cash.  This works best, when friends and neighbors refer you to people they know. Other ways to advertise is through social sites PennySaver, Craigslist, Ebay Classifieds and local Starbucks bulletin board.

Selling your beautiful crafts on Esty or local farmers market. There is also a group that helps crafters called "OC Boutiquers" on meetup. OC Boutiquers on Meetup

I hope that this post helps you make a little extra money. Happy New Year!!!
