"On January 29, 2012, the Annenberg Community Beach House in
Santa Monica, with its phenomenal views of the Pacific Ocean serving as a
backdrop, will be the site of the Zimmer Children’s Museum's newly revamped
Zimmerpalooza.
A celebration of the arts presented in a festival format,
Zimmerpalooza 2012 will be visual, musical, and sensory experience not to be
missed! Filled with tons of family fun arts & crafts, delicious food, and
live musical performances, it will truly be an event to remember.
Join us and make history as we work alongside award-winning
Gary Palmer on a fabulous creation that will become part of a permanent art
installation at the Zimmer Children’s Museum. An amazing team of experts have
been assembled to help our younger (and young at heart!) guests see that ART can

All of the money raised goes to support our Open Door
Days, when we open the museum exclusively for families with children with
special needs so that they may play together in an understanding community.

Dreaming of my wish list...
I am hoping, wishing and praying that this year we buy a house. A house with a yard, two bathrooms and great neighbors. You see we are a single wage earning family. My husband works very hard to provide for us and I stay home with the kids. I always thought I would have gone back to work full-time by now. But things don't always work out how you plan them to be. I work part time or seasonal jobs to make extra money for our fun stuff. But that does not give us much for other things, like a new house. You see we lived in a great community with great neighbors and lots of space for all us. But we moved, to be closer to my husband's work, so that there would be more family time. I don't regret it at all. As a family we have lunch together often. We even had a routine of driving dad to work during the summer. We are not rushed most mornings, we eat together all the time, we are closer by living close to work. It is great. Our apartment is like a resort with a pool, hot tube, gym and places I have not even visited yet. It is really great here. I have a very cosmopolitan apartment. Like the one I thought I would want, if I lived in New York City. Today I find myself wishing I lived in a neighborhood like the one I had in Eastvale. With the neighbor who was always outside and teacher friend down the street. Today I miss my backyard and doing the gardening, while the kids played with the next door neighbor kids. I miss my old house. So I started looking at Rent to Own homes. I found a few in Chicago. Problem is that I live in Southern California. So for now I will jump in the pool to forget about buying a house. What are your hopes and dreams for this year?

Have you seen the the Rosca Pan at the local Mexican Market? Today is January 6th El Dia De Los Tres Reyes or Three Kings Day. It is an important holiday tradition for Mexican's here in California. It is a day that parents give gifts to their children to represent the gifts that Baby Jesus received from the Three King's. So you could say that Christmas continues in the Mexican culture. The bread has a special surprise. Inside there is a small plastic figurine representing baby Jesus. If you get a slice and find the baby Jesus, then you are the person who will host Candelaria or Candlesmas Day party, which happens on February 2nd. February 2nd is the day for a large dinner of homemade tamales and hot chocolate. It is all so much fun to eat the Rosca and celebrate Three King's Day. This year I did not get the baby Jesus. So I am not throwing a party. Let's see what happens next year?
What is February 2nd?
(February 2nd is the 40th day after Christmas and it is believed that Jesus would have been taken to temple. For Catholics it is the "Feast of the Purification of the blessed Virgin also known as the Presentation of the Lord. In the United States it is Groundhog Day. It is the day that marks Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox.)
Where can you find the Rosca Bread?
Most Mexican markets have bakeries that bake fresh breads everyday. Superior, Northgate, El Tapatillo and Cardenas are a few that carry fresh baked goods.
Visiting a local Mexican Market is a great way to explore foods from Latin America without leaving town. Best time to go is early in the morning when everything is fresh and not crowded. Have fun with your field trips.

Rosca De Reyes - Three Kings Bread
Food Network Receipe: Food Network
Ingredients
- 1 (1/4-ounce) packet active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup dried figs, cut into strips, plus more for garnish
- 1/4 cup candied orange peel, cut into strips, plus more for garnish
- 1/4 cup candied lemon peel, cut into strips, plus more for garnish
- 1/4 cup chopped candied cherries, plus more whole for garnish
- 2 tablespoons light rum
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 large eggs, divided
- Water
Directions
In a small bowl, combine the yeast and warm water; stir to blend. Let stand until the yeast comes alive and starts to foam, about 5 to 10 minutes.
Put all of the candied fruit in small bowl and drizzle the rum on top. Let stand for 15 minutes to 1 hour to infuse the flavor.
In a small pot, warm the milk over medium heat. Add the sugar, butter, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
In a large bowl, mix 3 1/2 cups flour, 2 eggs, yeast mixture, milk mixture, and the rum soaked candied fruits, mixing very well until the dough gathers into a ball. If the dough is too wet, Add additional flour, a little at a time, if needed to form a soft dough. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until it's smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Put the ball of dough back into the bowl and cover with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel and set aside in a warm spot to rise for 1 hour.
Remove the dough from the bowl and knead on a lightly floured surface. Using your palms, roll the dough into a long rope. Shape the coil into a ring, sealing the ends together. Insert a little doll or coin into the bread from the bottom, if desired. Line a baking pan with aluminum foil and coat with nonstick cooking spray. Carefully transfer the dough ring to the prepared baking pan.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Beat the remaining egg in a small bowl with 1 tablespoon of water to make an egg wash, and brush the top of the bread. Decoratively garnish the top of the bread with more candied fruit and bake for 35 to 40 minutes until the cake is golden.
Cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Cook's Note: Let your guests know there is a little doll or coin inserted inside.

The closures are necessary to achieve an $11 million reduction in the next fiscal year 2011/12, that amount increasing to $22 million in the following fiscal year 2012/13. The beaches and parks in California are the most beautiful in the world. Right now the State Parks are in trouble. At least 70 parks are on a list for potential closure this year and some have already closed. We need every person's help to stop these park closures. You can help by visiting a local State Park at least once a month, buy an annual pass and share your passion for our beaches and parks with others. Make this year full of memories that will be spent at California Beaches or parks enjoying the outdoors. Help save California's outdoor life. Looking at the Field Trips of 2011
This year 2011 has been a year with many new experiences for everyone in my family. Early Spring 2011 my family and I traveled to Central California and had a blast visiting Monterey Bay Aquarium, The Mystery Spot and Dennis the Menace Park. Along the way up and coming home we visited the Missions that are along the California Coast. Each Mission was rich with history and spirit. One mission was so unique it had a secret passage. We accidentally used it. It was closed off to the public, but we had to go to the bathroom and got lost. By accident we found the secret passage. We completely found that experience amazing. Then Summer 2011 came and we spent days at the beach, gardens and parks enjoying the sun and water. The pool in our Irvine Community was not bad either. We did lots of swimming. (I did lots of watching not swimming.) Then as soon as September came it was back to school volunteering and running around driving kids to and from school. In all that crazy family life I added work and blogging. My family and I have had a successful year full of love, compassion, friendship and most of all of memories. My family and I want to wish you a very successful 2012 full of Love, Compassion, Friendship and lots of fun field trip memories. Happy New Year!
